West Bengal, the  gateway of   Eastern India, is well known for its rich heritage of culture  and  industries  since pre  independence with strong industrial potentials -  the  developed land, profuse deposit of coal, lime stone,  dolomite,  granite and  china clay, production of tea, jute, wheat, paddy,  maize,  mustard-seed, pulse, fruits and deep forestry.

Kolkata, the  cultural  capital of India,  is the  capital city of West Bengal with an international Airport. Kolkata ports (River), Roadways (NH & SH0 )and     Railways  (ER & SER)    net work    linkage   have   created   an unprecedented    industrial   hub  and  trade  centre catering to whole of Eastern India & North Eastern States.

Durgapur and Haldia are internationally renowned Industries junction for core   and   process  industries.  Rivereine  of  Hooghly ( Kolkata and its surroundings )  is  famous  for  Engineering  industries  &  power  plants. Kharagpur has made a space for  Railways and  Engineering  Industries. Bishnupur creates a centre of  Ferro industries with the proximity of raw materials.   Raninagar  and   Coochbehar   become   another   industrial junctions for  agro-based  industries in the  northern part of the  state to cater the  huge  market of  North -East   India  and  adjoining  countries. Malda,  Siliguri  and  Asansol  have  already become important industrial and trading hubs in Eastern India.  Kolkata  itself is realizing its potential for IT industries.
